How Long Do I Have To Pay Alimony in New Jersey?

man with hands on his head

Clients often come to me as a Bergen County Alimony Attorney, and want to know how long alimony lasts.  New Jersey law mandates different kinds of alimony. Alimony based on the length of the marriage is called limited duration alimony, and the New Jersey statute states that – for marriages of 20 years or less – the duration can be no longer than the maximum length of your marriage. For instance, if you were married for five years, any alimony to which your spouse may or may not be entitled cannot exceed five years.
